AS WEYMOUTH prepares for more warm weather more jellyfish have been spotted along the shoreline.
Since the spring barrel jellyfish have been spotted along the coast. The gentle giants have a mild sting but are not a risk to humans.
Wildlife experts have urged people to look but don’t touch. This picture was sent in by Mark Janicki, who spotted the jellyfish at Stone Pier in Weymouth.
Barrel jellyfish can grow up to 90cm wide and they feed off plankton.
Marine experts are urging people to report sightings to them as jellyfish are the staple diet of leatherback turtles which could now be attracted to the area.
Louise Excell sent in a picture of what is believed to be a compass jellyfish, which was spotted off Chesil Beach.
The species have long stinging tentacles and can cause painful welts.
Marine experts have warned people to be careful, but said there was no need to panic.
