DORSET is set for a bumper bank holiday weekend of entertainment.

A host of events are planned for Weymouth and Dorchester over the long weekend for visitors and residents to enjoy.

With the weather forecast improving somewhat on earlier predictions, it promises to be a Maumbury Rings is the centre of the action in the county town with the Anonymous Festival on today (Sat) and the music day organised by Dorchester Town Council on Monday.

The Anonymous Festival is organised by youngsters in Dorchester and features a whole host of up and coming musical acts as well as entertainment such as free running, slack lining and a graffiti art workshop from 12noon.

The town council concert, which starts at 1.30pm, is being held for the 11th year and will feature music from the likes of the Andy Grant Trio, Boy Le Monti, Darren Hodge, Stone Roots, The Leggomen, 24 Pesos and Willowen.

Tomorrow’s Dorchester Love Parade was also due to be based at the Maumbury Rings but will now be held at the Corn Exchange from 12,30pm to 8pm due to the weather forecast for Sunday.

There will be live music, activities and a parade through the town with a theme of divas.

Mayor of Dorchester Robin Potter said the August bank holiday weekend had become one of the highlights of the summer in the county town.

He said: “There’s always plenty going on in Dorchester.

“There’s Anonymous on Saturday, Love Parade on the Sunday and the town council’s music day on Monday all for people to enjoy.”

In Weymouth there will be a musical extravaganza on today in aid of two good causes.

The PICU Rocks Festival at Aura runs from 2pm and will raise money for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton General Hospital and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Music will come from the likes of Subverson, Morgan Lily, Tom Smethurst, The Leggomen, Tom Hastie of Peacock Suit, Blazin’ Strings and the Stereoironics.

Dragon boats will be roaring into action tomorrow in Weymouth Bay.

The event organised by Melcombe Regis Rotary Club will take place from 10am and will also raise funds for good causes.

Also on Sunday The Springhead pub in Sutton Poyntz will be holding its second dog, sausage and cider festival from 11.30am to 6pm.

There will be a dog show, sausage throwing competition, children’s entertainment, music and much more. The event will raise funds for Margaret Green Animal Rescue.

On Monday there will be plenty of fun at Castle Cove Beach with the campaign group calling for restored access to the beach organising competitions and games from 1pm with families invited to bring along a picnic.
