A PHOTOGRAPHER from Dorset won a prestigious prize following an open exhibition.

Judith Jones, from Dorchester, had her work exhibited at the UK’s longest-running artists’ collective run by the London Group.

The group supports diverse and emerging artistic talent across Britain and has supported the likes of David Hockney and L.S. Lowry.

Judith describes herself as a fine art photographer with an interest in social and philosophical studies of urban life.

Judith says that within her work she wants to stretch the boundaries of photography through research and experimentation.

Following the exhibition she won the GX Gallery Annual Prize for her image Rendezvous.

She won the prize at the 82nd London Group Open which was held at the Cello Factory in London.

As well as Judith being from Dorset, the photo was also taken in Dorset and features a bus stop in Woodsford near Dorchester.

The picture is part of a body of work exploring twilight.

Talking about the picture, Judith said: “This ‘blue hour’ takes us through the transition between day and night with an uncanny sense of unease.

She said her images ‘examine the dialectic between the outside and the inside, conflicts of private and public spaces and concepts of fear and uncertainty.”

Judith expressed her delight at winning the award.
She said: “I’m thrilled, it’s brilliant. I’ve taken part in the last three exhibits there, I really love the whole group there.

“I’m just so thrilled. You have to pinch yourself to see that you won this.”

Judith has also recently had work exhibited at the 2015 Wells Art Contemporary in Somerset and at the Royal West of England Academy’s annual open exhibition in Bristol.

She only graduated from studying photography at The Arts University College Bournemouth in 2009.

She has also put on a show with Arts in Hospital at Dorset County Hospital which increased her interest in the value of arts to our physical and mental wellbeing and volunteers as arts co-ordinator.
