THE ORGANISER of a collection for refugees in Calais has issued a fresh plea for donations.

Julian Nangle and fellow volunteers set up the Dorchester Direct Aid group last year to help support the refugees in camps at the French port.

They have overseen the delivery of seven vehicle loads of donations of items such as food and clothing over recent months.

Mr Nangle said the town had been very generous but the donations had somewhat "dried up" recently and he was looking to fill up his storeroom again so a fresh wave of deliveries could be sent out to the refugees.

He said: "I have now got an empty storeroom and I'm very happy to have more donations of any warm clothing and food and other contributions."

Dorchester Direct Aid has been supported by local property firm Meyers Estate Agents and has also been working with the Blandford Cares Group, which is sending another delivery out to Calais at the end of this month.

Mr Nangle said he just wanted to remind people the effort for the refugees is continuing and donations are always welcome.

He said: "It's still going on and we are happy to get in stuff if anyone wants to give it."

As well as tinned food and warm clothing, other items needed in the camp include shoes, tents, travelling bags, socks, candles, belts, blankets and sleeping bags, toiletries, plastic bags, pots and pans, plastic water containers, black sacks for rubbish, fire lighters, airtight storage containers and plastic storage boxes.
