RICHARD Samways states in his entertaining letter (Echo 27/5/2016) that the Remain camp have threatened us with everything but the plague, and how right he is.

Even US President Barack Obama waded in and told us during a recent visit to the UK, that if we were to vote ourselves out of the EU any future trade deals with America could take up to 5 to 10 years to enact.

Well far from being at the “back of the queue” 5 to 10 years may well put us at the front. How come. Well the EU and America have been trying to strike a trade deal for the last 40 years with no deal currently in sight. So 5 to 10 years would be quite speedy.

Perhaps the words of a past American President should be taken on board by “Brexit”. The words spoken by Franklyn D Roosevelt ( with a slight adjustment) at his inaugural speech in 1933, during the depths of the greatest recession in history “The United Kingdom will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyses needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.

"In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and vigour has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory”.

Let us have faith in ourselves and vote leave on 23rd June.
