A CRAFT workshop supporting families affected by cancer is going from strength to strength and has recently received a generous donation of more than £900.

The Purbeck Workshop was set up in memory to a father-of-two who sadly passed away. Sinead Feeney, from Wool, launched the workshop last November, just one week after her 34-year-old husband Paul passed away after being diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome in 2012.

The workshop was chosen as Sainsbury’s charity of the year for its Wareham branch and a cheque presentation was held at the store last month.

The store donated £940 to the workshop, which hosts a variety of activities for those suffering from cancer and their friends and families.

Sinead said: “Thanks to the generous support of our voters last year, The Purbeck Workshop was fortunate to be charity of the year for the Wareham branch of Sainsbury’s. We would like to say a big thank you to all the staff and customers at the Wareham Sainsbury’s for their generosity over the past year, raising an amazing £940 for our charity, which offers creative activities for those touched by cancer.

“The Purbeck Workshop has not only benefited from this wonderful monetary donation, but customers have also donated a huge variety of art and craft materials over the year thanks to the collection box at Sainsbury’s. These materials have stocked our workshop with everything from wool, thread, paper, canvas, paints, and fabrics, to tools, easels, and books, helping us to offer our activities free of charge. Our workshop provides a welcoming venue for anyone affected by cancer and offers something for everyone, from woodturning to tai chi.”

Sinead added: “If you have been touched by cancer, please visit our website or see our posters at Dorset County Hospital or in Wool for our programme of events. There’s no need to book, just find an activity and come along. Friends and family welcome too. We’ll be open every day from 10:30am to 3:30pm from now to Sunday, June 12 and you can browse our little shop of handmade gifts too.”
