VOTERS living in Weymouth’s Wey Valley Ward will be asked to go to the polls on October 20 to elect a new borough councillor.
It follows the resignation of Cllr Cory Russell.
Candidates standing are:
James Askew (Green Party)
Tony Ferrari (Conservative)
Alphonso Straker (Labour)
Robert Vaughan (Liberal Democrat)
Cory Russell joined the council in 2014 when he held the Wey Valley seat for the Conservatives.
Voters must be on the electoral register and have had their details verified by October 6 in order to take part in the election to Weymouth & Portland Borough Council.
The borough council’s electoral service team is urging new electors in the Wey Valley area to register to vote. If you are new to the area and have recently returned an electoral registration form, make sure you have completed your application by providing your National Insurance number and date of birth online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or by responding to the email or paper form we have sent you.
Poll cards giving information about when and where to vote are on their way in the post to registered electors in the area. Electors who usually vote at the Radipole URC Hall should note that the only polling station for this election is at the Redlands Community Sports Hub on Dorchester Road. There are ample parking facilities there.
If you are likely to be away for election day you can apply to vote by post (applications must be received by 5pm on Friday 7 October) or by proxy (applications must be received by 5pm on Friday 14 October). Forms can be downloaded at dorsetforyou.com/postal or dorsetforyou.com/proxy
More information about the election and the candidates is available online at dorsetforyou.com/elections.
