A LARGE amount of drugs and cash were seized in Weymouth following a major search after two men attempted to run away from police.

Officers from Weymouth and Portland Police spotted a vehicle that was of interest to them at Bowleaze Coveway yesterday afternoon, a silver Vauxhall Insignia.

The driver made off from officers at speed towards the Littlemoor area, where police eventually found the vehicle abandoned, before calling for backup and assistance from the dog unit.

Two men were found hiding and were arrested.

"Many thanks to members of the public that assisted directing officers where the vehicle had gone," a spokesman for the force said. "The vehicle was eventually located abandoned in Littlemoor and following a dynamic team effort involving officers from response, the neighbourhood policing team, force support group and dog section two males were located hiding in a nearby address.

"These two males, who are not local, were found to be in possession of a large amount of drugs and cash so have both been arrested for several traffic and drug offences and are now in custody.

"One of the males also had several matters outstanding against him and will be dealt with these as well. The vehicle was seized, as was a second vehicle nearby that hadn’t been taxed for almost a year."
