A ROAD through a village near Weymouth will shut for five days for sewer maintenance.

Front Street in Portesham, between the junctions with Winters Lane and Church Lane, will be closed from Monday, September 6 until Friday, September 10.

The 130-metre stretch of road is required to close in order to safely allow DK Eastment workers to add a sewer connection in the road.

The road closure comes as some maintenance is taking place on Front Street near to Portesham Church, which is set to be completed by Friday, September 3.

A public notice from Dorset Council states: "This notice will enable DK Eastment safe access to provide sewer connection in the highway."

During the five-day road closure, a 20-mile diversion route will be in place, which will see motorists travel onto B3157, A354, A35, Coombe Road and Portesham Hill.

Alternatively, there are a number of shorter but unofficial routes that drivers can take to avoid the road closure. These are not suitable for HGVs and should be avoided if using larger machinery.
