A human story about coming home can be seen in a west Dorset village next month.

The Syrian Baker will be brought to the stage of Portesham Village Hall on Friday, October 28 through touring arts charity Artsreach.

This show, from Farnham Maltings, which previously toured ‘Brilliance’ and ‘The Iranian Feast’ is heading back to Dorset this autumn following three sell-out performances and rave audience reviews of The Syrian Baker.

With almost five per cent of the world’s population on the move, desperate to get away from trouble, The Syrian Baker is a story of two people who have decided to go home despite the state of their country.

This show is a human story about coming home, knowing where you belong and how small actions can make a big difference in one’s life and in re-building a community. It is a piece about humanity, hope and courage told with affection, irrepressible humour and bread.

Farnham Maltings has created a new play about the world for village halls; expect an evening in the company of friends with stories, freshly made bread, Syrian coffee and Mamoull like the ones from the Caffe Plaza in Homs old town.

Written by Kevin Dyer and directed by Gavin Stride, ‘The Syrian Baker’ was awarded ‘Play of the Year’ at the 2022 Writers Guild of Great Britain Awards.

Don’t miss Farnham Maltings as they tour to Portesham (01305 871035) on Friday, October 28 begingin at 7.30pm in partnership with Artsreach, the counties touring arts charity supported by Dorset Council and Arts Council England.
