There's a rare opportunity to go up Hardy's Monument this weekend.
The landmark is holding open days on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16 from 10am to 4pm.
The National Trust is operating free, timed entry, which is bookable in advance.
Visitors should be aware that the 1844-built monument has limited accessibility and consists of a small entranceway and a tight spiral staircase of 120 steps. There are no toilets or catering facilities at the monument or in the car park.
Hardy's Monument is at DT2 9HY and was built in memory of Vice-Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy, Flag Captain of HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.
Amongst other things, Hardy became famous as it was in his arms that Nelson died, saying the immortal words 'Kiss me Hardy'. The National Trust became owners of the site in 1938 and have maintained it ever since.
