A Dorset prison officer has been found guilty of misconduct in a public office following a four-day trial.

Bethany Jane Williams-Brian, aged 22 and of Weymouth, was convicted at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday, July 14.

She had been charged in December with two counts of misconduct in a public office relating to two separate incidents.

The jury found Williams-Brian guilty of one count while she was cleared of another.

Whilst employed at HMP Portland between July 1, 2021 and August 12, 2021, the 22-year-old wilfully neglected to report a prisoner - Connor Hemborough - for possessing a mobile phone.

Williams-Brian was cleared of passing on confidential information relating to the inmate as the jury read out their verdicts at the end of the trial, which began on Monday, July 10.

She will be sentenced at the same court on Friday, August 18.
