Suspected unexploded ordnance has been found in the woods near Bovington.

It was discovered in the area of Oakers Wood.

Police set up a cordon to keep the public away and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended.

The EOD team removed the item and took it to a safe location for a controlled detonation.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 2.23pm on Tuesday, September 5 that suspected unexploded ordnance had been located in the area of Oakers Wood near Bovington.

"Officers attended and a cordon was put in place for the safety of members of the public as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended.

"The EOD team removed the item and took it to a safe location for a controlled detonation.

"Officers left the scene at around 9pm."
