An attraction in Weymouth is hosting a 'authentic and unique' theatre production of a Christmas Carol.

Nothe Fort in Weymouth will stage the theatre production from AsOne Theatre in the retelling of Charles Dickens's festive ghost story, taking place on Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17.

Organisers say the event promises to be a unique chance to immerse in a classic Victorian setting.

The adaptation of the classic comes from AsOne’s artistic director Jane McKell which sees miser Ebeneezer Scrooge learn about the true spirit of Christmas.

Organisers have said that online booking is essential to keep each performance intimate and participatory, with four 20-minute slots per day available.

Mary-Anne Edwards, Nothe Fort’s general manager said: “Nothe Fort is really excited to be working with an award winning, local drama group who will bring our Victorian Gundeck to life. They are using the Fort as a theatre set to create an authentic, magical atmosphere for A Christmas Carol.”

Jane McKell said: “The Nothe Fort is a very special museum. All its nooks and crannies are such fun to explore. The Gun Deck makes an evocative, immersive performance space.

“The Nothe Fort Trust challenged AsOne to produce a family friendly, piece of storytelling with two actors for the Christmas season.

“Our A Christmas Carol short is in verse, engaging our audience to participate as you do in pantomime. The narrator, Mrs Cratchit will welcome you, then encourage the audience to sing, boo, hiss, cheer, or listen quietly in true melodramatic style.

She went on to say that the company are encouraging children to make a simple, handmade, card-lantern with an LED candle to bring along and light the way.

“This spooky story has a feel-good message at heart of love, family, good will, and giving at Christmas. A two hander, with dramatised scenes mixed with narration has costume, projection, and a soundscape to evoke a much-loved Victorian story,” she added.

The show times are 11.15am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm on both dates. The show is free with a General Admission ticket or Annual Pass, but booking is required. Book online via nothefort.org.uk/whats-on
