A 12-year-old boy from Weymouth is set to tour Asia acting in a famous musical.

Ollie Vaughan is ‘counting down the days’ until he jets off to China for the first leg of the School of Rock tour.

The youngster is set to play the flamboyant character of Billy the Stylist aka Fancy Pants in 2024.

His mum Sian Vaughan said: “Ollie is very excited and can’t wait. He is loving the rehearsals, and the rest of the cast are fantastic.

“This is all he has ever wanted to do, sing, dance, and act. He loves it and it is a dream come true.”

Sian will join Ollie for the Asia tour as he is set to spend 10 months on the continent performing in different countries.

She described the adventure as ‘scary,’ explaining that she has given up her job to travel with Ollie and is ‘currently trying to tie up any loose ends.’

However, Sian expressed how ‘incredibly proud’ the whole family are of Ollie and spoke of how ‘excited’ his two brothers were after hearing of his big break.

Ollie was scouted for the role whilst taking part in a workshop in London and after a lot of thought and talks, the family wanted to help him follow his dream.

He has been in rehearsals ever since playing the lead role in WOW’s production of Oliver at Weymouth Pavilion.

Ollie expressed a huge thanks to his family, Weymouth Dance Studio and WOW Musical Theatre Group for their continued support over the years.

The School of Rock stage show is based off of the hit movie featuring Jack Black and first premiered on Broadway in 2015.

The production has since been seen on stages around the globe, following the story of Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn some extra cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school.

There he turns a class of straight-A students into a mind-blowing rock band.

The young actor will jet off to China which is the first stop of the tour shortly after Christmas for what his mum described as his ‘first ever professional job.’
