A one-man play based on a classic novel will be touring across Dorset between February and March.

Reginald Arkell’s 1950 novel Old Herbaceous will be brought to life on stage by Peter Macqueen at three village halls in Dorset as part of a spring programme of events by Artsreach.

The play follows an old gardener, Herbert Pinnegar, as he reminisces on vignette memories kept alive through his love of gardening.

As he potters away, he recounts his journey from orphan boy to legendary head gardener and tells of his friendship with the lady of the house, Mrs Charteris.

Each performance will take place at 7.30pm. The first Dorset venue will be Sandford Orcas Village Hall with a performance on Thursday, February 29.

The play will then perform at Broadwindsor Comrades Hall on Friday, March 1 before making its way to Child Okeford Village Hall for a final performance the following day.

Artsreach is Dorset’s touring arts organisation, giving rural communities across the county the opportunity to see and participate in high quality arts events in their own villages.
