Locals are invited to celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month with film and theatre events in Dorchester.

The Shire Hall Museum is working in association with Dorchester Arts, bringing LBTQ+ themed theatre and film to the Corn Exchange this February.

The British comedy drama PRIDE will be shown on Tuesday, February 13 at 6.30pm. Based on a true story, the film follows a group of gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the British miners' strike in 1984.

Another historical drama will be on later in the week called Caravaggio. The film offers a fictionalised retelling of the life of Baroque painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, looking at his relationships with two of the models for his religious paintings, Ranuccio and his mistress Lena. It will be shown on Sunday, February 18 at 7pm.

To conclude LGBTQ+ history month, there will be a performance of Jarman - a solo play by Mark Farrelly which celebrates the life of gay rights activist Derek Jarman, who passed away nearly 30 years ago. The performance will be on Wednesday, February 28 at 7:30 pm.
