Two people have been arrested in connection to the reported supply of class A drugs in Weymouth.

Police executed warrants at two addresses in Weymouth, including one at Chapelhay, and one in the Park District, under section 8 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.

The operation was undertaken as part of an investigation into the reported supply of class A drugs in the area.

A man and woman – both from Weymouth – were arrested and both have since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

No drugs were seized during the operation and it was revealed that armed police were present for operational reasons.

Residents at Chapelhay described seeing ‘armed police and additional police officers everywhere.’

Another explained that their child was walking to school and was approached by armed officers asking them to walk around towards the back of Chapelhay.

The incidents happened during the morning of Friday, March 22 - but police have only released the full details today.

Officers were seen in the vicinity of the shopping precinct at Chapelhay during this time and residents will be able to notice an increased police presence in the area as enquiries are carried out.

Police have not revealed the exact street addresses, however they have confirmed the operations occurred at Chapelhay and in the Park District.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “During the morning of Friday, March 22, officers executed warrants at two addresses in Weymouth under section 8 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 as part of an investigation into the reported supply of class A drugs in the area.

“A 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman – both from Weymouth – were arrested. They have both been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

“We would like to reassure members of the local community that this was a pre-planned targeted operation and there was nothing to indicate any wider risk to the public.

“There will be an increased police presence in the vicinity as enquiries are carried out.”
