A main route in Dorset will be closed twice for surface dressing work to prevent potholes and improve skid resistance.
Dorset Highways will carry out the works to the Old Sherborne Road between Charlton Down and Charminster.
Provisionally the stretch of the road will be closed from 5am to 5pm between Wednesday, May 29 and Tuesday, June 11.
According to Dorset Council, sites will form a rolling programme that is weather dependant and liable to change.
Due to the unpredictability of the weather, a narrower window for the work will be advertised two weeks before it’s due to start.
A diversion will be put in place for safety reasons.
During the closure periods, street parking will not be available and restrictions will be imposed to prevent waiting or parking on the roads.
Surface dressing is carried out to prevent potholes forming by providing a waterproof seal.
A spokesperson for Dorset Council said that dressing ‘improves skid resistance’ by adding a thin layer of new stone chippings spread on the finished surface.
Travel Dorset added that ‘a small surplus of loose chippings will remain on the road’ which will be removed by a suction sweeper around two days after the work.
The road will be closed a second time with no parking enforced so that surface sealing can be carried out applied before line markings can be replaced. No parking will be permissible during this period.
