A DORSET hair salon is celebrating a big win after coming out a cut above the rest.
The Dorchester Hair Studio has been named as the Dorset Echo Hair Salon of the Year.
We invited readers to nominate their favourite and then vote for the winner from a shortlist - and The Dorchester Hair Studio in Trinity Street was triumphant in the competition.
Owner Beccy Greening took over the salon two and a half years ago after working there for 12 years prior to that.
Upon the win, Beccy, 48, said: “It’s really lovely, all of the girls here are self-employed, and we were just really excited.”
The team is made up of eight women including owner Beccy, Sian Watson, Tanya Hawker, Jackie Riley, Becky Hewish, Louise Ruskin, Emily Bedford, and Amber Rose who ‘all feel like a family.’
The salon owner followed in her mum’s footsteps to become a hairdresser.
She said: “My mum being a hairdresser was my inspiration, she used to work from home with three kids and I would help her out all the time – I loved it.”
Now, her 22-year-old daughter, Sian Watson is also following in both her mother and grandmother’s footsteps to become a hairdresser and has been doing so for around four years.
Beccy explained that her favourite thing to do is ‘is cutting, restyling and colouring, adding, ‘there’s a couple of girls that come into the salon that love bright and fun colours.’
She said: “It’s being able to make someone look completely different and amazing – when they look in the mirror and think ‘that looks great,’ or ‘I look amazing.’”

Despite the current economic climate and cost of living crisis, Beccy revealed that it is not impacting the salon.
She said: “We are extremely busy, and I think that’s because everybody needs a haircut – it’s a necessity.
“Everyone that comes in here always says that there is a lovely atmosphere. They feel comfortable and relaxed.
“Our clients are amazing and without them we wouldn’t have won. We are really chuffed – it made us feel really good.”
