LYME Regis interim boss Chris Higgs felt Sidmouth Town Seconds’ 4-1 win at Davey Fort was flattering to the Vikings.

Jack Drew-Cull and Scott Hughes put Sidmouth into a deserved 2-0 half-time lead but Dan Beer nodded Lyme back into contention from a Rob Fellingham corner.

Lyme pushed hard for an equaliser but in leaving men forward were countered on twice late on as Beer scored an unfortunate own goal before Hughes completed his brace.

Speaking to the Bridport & Lyme Regis News, Higgs said: “It did flatter them, we didn’t start very well.

"We were a bit hot potato with it at the beginning.

“We didn’t get the ball up to Matty (Loader-Mouland) or Josh (Rawlins) as we planned on doing, that’s why we changed to a 4-3-3.

“The defence seemed to be struggling a little bit, they seemed to have a man over and they were just leaving him up there, dropping off into the holes and scoring the goals.

“They had a couple of big strikers, we didn’t win many headers and second balls. I thought we could get a draw at the end but the gamble didn’t pay off.”

Lyme were due to tackle fifth-placed Clyst Valley yesterday evening, before a 10-day break between games.

The Seasiders resume their league campaign at home to University of Exeter Seconds on Saturday, May 18.
