THE Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens have started the New Year with a newsletter from their new chair and committee to all members.

They have a full programme of activities and a list of ambitious projects aimed at improving the facilities of the area.

They hope to achieve success by attracting lottery funding, but are also aiming to raise funds locally.

On Saturday, February 6 at 7.30pm, there is a Quiz Night at the Centenary Club.

At just £5 per ticket, a light supper is included and a great evening is guaranteed, judging by the last one.

Admission is by ticket only, so early booking is advised! (tel: 779559)

Anyone wishing to contribute ideas for the Friends may contact vice chair Alex Owen Smith at alex.owensmith@yahoo.co.uk or any committee member who are keen to receive suggestions for projects, activities and fundraising.

He highlighted issues relating to community events involving artistic expression and endeavour that are encouraged and showcased in the events planned for the forthcoming year and the period leading to 2012 with the Cultural Olympiad.

A wide range of voluntary groups and organisations are involved in these projects and the aim is to bring about a significant programme of events for all residents and visitors to our borough.
