• WHEN the Friends of Lodmoor Country Park organised their first Tree Time Walk in 2009, three hardy souls braved stormy weather to attend; this week's Winter Walk was enjoyed by a far larger group, who will look at the woodland with new eyes when they next visit the park.

They were led and entertained by parks manager Carl Dallison, whose "wealth of knowledge was delivered effortlessly", according to Sheila Goodwin, a Friend of Lodmoor Country Park treasurer, one of 27 people present.

The event was declared a great success, with everyone looking forward to the next seasonal walk, several new members enrolled and £27 raised for the New Bench Fund.

  • Radipole Park and Gardens Friends held a successful event, raising £170.

75 quizzers pitted their wits, compered by Ian Campbell, at the Centenary Club.

The evening was most enjoyable and prompted volunteers to the committee, including youngsters.

Another quiz is to be run in October.

The Brownies have volunteered to help with planting and tidying.

Schools and playgroups will also be involved in such activities during the coming months.
