A RAUCOUS evening is in store with Dorchester Drama's new production of two act comedies.

Out for the Count and The Witches of Prestwick will be performed at the Corn Exchange, Dorchester, on July 28 and 29.

Out for the Count, by Martin Downing, tells the story of the Count, newly arrived from Transylvania at Dr.Sewer's asylum.

He is hungry for more than Bridget's fruit cup or Constance's bloody Mary! Thwarted by a cross shaped birthmark and hounded by the Professor, the Count enlists obnoxious Rennet to help and nearly defeats the Professor and young Jonathan.

But all have reckoned without Bridget's escargots

The Witches of Prestwick by Joseph Graham tells of three members of a local amateur dramatic society who are rehearsing their roles as the witches in 'the Scottish play', with varying levels of competence.

Bev, the ablest actress, has taken her role a bit too seriously and has been researching witchcraft to lend plausibility to her performance. Goaded by Jan and Lou, she gives them a crash course in magic!

Bored by having to meditate, they insist that they conjure their perfect man! Halfway through casting the spell, they lose their nerve and resort to learning their lines.

But have they gone too far to? Does the spell in Macbeth actually work? Interrupted by an unexpected caller, has their dabbling in the occult conjured up the Devil himself? Or is he really just a vacuum cleaner salesman with a wickedly erotic salesman's spiel?

The plays will be performed at the Corn Exchange, Dorchester, at 7.30pm on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 July. There will be refreshments and a raffle. Tickets will be available from Trinity Stores, Trinity Street, Dorchester, or on 01305 268692.
