TABLE-TOPPERS Portland United will be looking to extend their lead at the summit of the Dorset Premier league this weekend as they entertain Wareham Rangers tomorrow (3pm).

Striker Lewis Clarke needs a little more time to recover from his hamstring injury and misses out for the islanders.

However, Adam Linaker and Ed Bastic return to the squad having missed the midweek game against Weymouth Reserves due to work commitments.

Manager Gary Bailey said: “Obviously confidence is high at the moment as we are on a very good run of results.

“But having gone top after winning in midweek it’s so important we don’t take our eye off the game because there is still plenty to do.

“Wareham themselves have been in decent form recently and we are expecting a tough test.

“With three games in five days coming up over the Easter period the squad is going to be fully stretched and everyone is going to have a part to play.

“But we will take each game as it comes and assess how things are after each one.”

Following their 1-0 defeat to Portland on Tuesday, Weymouth Reserves host Blandford United on Saturday afternoon in an attempt to bounce back (3pm).

Manager Jake Richmond claimed: “We had a players’ meeting at the end of last season and said that if we got fitter and worked on the technical side of our game a bit more the top three would be a realistic target.

“We didn’t say we had to win the league. To finish in the top three or four would be an excellent achievement.”

Bridport Reserves are also at home tomorrow when they take on 10th-placed Holt United at St Mary’s Field (3pm).
