PORTLAND’S Jay Lelliott helped England into the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay final tonight (9.20pm) at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Lelliott, who led off the English quartet in the first of two heats, swam his leg in a time of one minute 49.72 seconds, handing over to Max Litchfield in second place.
England eventually finished fourth behind winners Scotland, New Zealand and Wales, but made it through to the final as the sixth fastest qualifiers across the two heats.
After the race, Lelliott wrote on Twitter: "Not bad for a 1500 swimmer! So happy to have broke 1:50 this morning! Now for the main event tomorrow!"
Lelliott swims in the heats of the 1500m tomorrow.
