DORCHESTER RFC have done their bit to aid a rugby academy on the other side of the world.

Half of the proceeds from the club’s Spring Ball raffle were donated to the Children of Fiji charity to help the John Wesley College Rugby Academy in Suva fund the purchase of their own weight training equipment.

A number of tackle training shields were also donated to the cause.

Taniela Savou, 7s Rugby Academy co-ordinator at the college, wrote to Dorchester, saying: “On behalf of the school administrators, we would like to convey our sincere gratitude for your tremendous donation to the Rugby Academy.

“The school principal is very grateful for the donation from Dorchester Rugby Club.”

He then wrote again with an update following some success for the college on the rugby field: “We would like to thank you for the donation from Dorchester Rugby Club.

“The John Wesley Rugby Academy has reaped the benefit and as a result became the unbeaten team in the Southern Zone Rugby Union competition.”

Dorchester spokesman Ben Sennett said: “We are very proud of our association with the charity Children of Fiji and it is so pleasing to see the impact our donation has made.

“Like many clubs, we accumulate a lot of used kit and we are delighted to send this to Fiji where we know that it will be put to good use.”
