WEYMOUTH RESERVES 3 SHAFTESBURY TOWN 2

CONOR Jevon was on target twice for Weymouth Reserves as they sealed their first home win of the season against Shaftesbury Town.

The young striker, who spent pre-season as part of Jason Matthews’ first-team squad and has recently attracted interest from Poole Town, scored either side of half-time, including the winning goal just past the hour mark to give his side the victory.

Commenting on the frontman, manager Jake Richmond told Echosport: “He’s not as sharp as he could be but the game would have done him good.

“He took his goals well and it was nice to have him in the side again.”

Jamie Beasley hit a fierce strike to open the scoring with eight minutes on the clock after he found his way on to a Sam Nichols cross.

And although some poor defending enabled visitors Shaftesbury to level 10 minutes later, Jevon showed his class to bend the ball around a defender and into the back of the net to restore the advantage.

“I was stood right behind it and it was a great finish, really composed,” Richmond added.

The home side were then pegged back once more having been caught out by a free-kick that swirled in the wind.

However, Jevon was first to react to a loose ball in the area to to notch the winner almost instantly.

Speaking about his side’s performance, the Terras’ boss added: “It was much better than we were on Tuesday and much better than we were last Saturday.

“It’s still not how I would like us to perform but we are getting there.”

The Terras will be looking to make it back-to-back wins when they host Swanage Town & Herston on Wednesday night (7.30pm).

Richmond added: “I want at least another 40 or 50 per cent, we can be a lot better.

“I look at where we were last year, how consistent we were, and how well we played and we need to raise the bar still.

“I expect a better performance on Wednesday.

“Swanage will give us a good test, they have a fantastic club and are getting better and better.

“They will come and give us a really good battle, they had a good result on Saturday so we are going to have to be on our toes and perform.”
