ITALIAN Anthony Giacomini was crowned the EFSA European boat champion in Weymouth yesterday.
The former European junior champion totalled 400 points overall, just three ahead of England’s Rob Shattock, who scooped second spot with 397. Colin Searles finished third to take bronze with 395.
In the national team event, overnight leaders England A held on to claim victory, with Italy A impressing to grab second, moving England B down to third spot overall.
Giacomini was once again influential in the open two-man team category, as he and partner Mauro Salvatori claimed gold ahead of English duo Matt Osbourne and Shattock.
Fellow England pair Ray Barron and Neil Bryant, who led for the first two days, came third in the final standings.
A number of high quality fish were recorded throughout, with a 17lb undulate ray and congers over 30lbs.
The line class championships are set to take place today.
