NIGEL Biddlecombe has announced he is stepping down as chairman of Weymouth FC.

In a statement, he thanked everyone involved with the club and said he hoped leaving his role with the Terras in a “really healthy and stable position” would be his legacy.

He added that over the next couple of days he will decide whether or not there is a position for him on the club’s board.

His statement reads: “It is with great regret that I have to advise you all that I will not be chairman of Weymouth Football Club for the coming year.

“There are a number of reasons for this decision (some of which are personal, which include work and geographical constraints) that have made it increasingly difficult to devote the time and attention or garner the support that the role demands.

“I have been immensely proud to be chairman of our football club and am happy that, with the help of my fellow directors and our club’s fantastic supporters, we have guided the club away from the desperate depths to which it had sunk.

“As we all know it is now in a really healthy and stable position.

“I hope that this will be my legacy and prove, in the due course of time, to be an important era in the on-going history of our club.

“I want to say a huge thank you to you all for the encouragement and assistance you have given me during my tenure, and I trust that the same assistance will be given to the new chairman and the board of directors, Jason, the playing staff and all the volunteers that will continue our efforts that will hopefully in the near future take this club back where it belongs.

“Over the next few days I intend to consider my future at the club and whether there is a role for me to play within the current board but, once again, my humble thanks to you all.

“Nothing I have done over the past few years could have been achieved without your dedicated, magnificent support.”
