EGDON Heath Harriers once again put on a superb event as they organised the 53rd annual Weymouth 10 road race.

Around 200 runners competed in the 10-mile race which took them along Weymouth seafront and over the hills at Bowleaze.

The amateur athletes, aged between 17 and 77, showed tremendous strength and determination to conquer a very demanding course.

Mayor of Weymouth & Portland Kate Wheller started the race in surprisingly warm and sunny conditions.

And, despite strong winds, Steven Bayton of Hercules Wimbledon crossed the line first in a time of 54mins 31secs.

He was followed by Bournemouth AC runner Peter Thompson (58.25) and his team-mate Simon Munro (59.48), who secured third place.

First female home was Zoe Hayward (71.31) of Maiden Newton Runners, followed by Elaine Falcus (72.26) and Li Von Schack (76.49).

Race director Damian Summerscales gave thanks to the entire group of volunteer marshals who had once again made the run a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

He also extended particular gratitude to the management team at Weymouth Pavilion for providing the race headquarters, to Weymouth & Portland Borough Council for their valued help and thanked event sponsors Sainsbury’s Weymouth and Redferns Solicitors.

Weymouth 10 will return in 2015 and is expected to be bigger and better than ever.
