GRAHAM Kemp admitted the Magpies’ performance against Burnham last night may not have been the prettiest, but seeing his side secure another three points was all that mattered to him.

A first-half own goal gave Dorchester their second Evo-Stik Premier Division victory in succession and saw them move further away from the bottom four.

“It was an ugly win but given the situation we’re in we’ll take any win at the moment,” said county town boss Kemp.

“Little things change seasons occasionally. On Saturday it was the sending off and last night we got the deflection for the goal.

“But I am a firm believer in luck changes if you work harder, and I think we’re certainly working harder.

“They had a lot of possession but we stuck in there as a team, which is what I want us to do.”

Jake Smeeton, who came off in the second half with a hamstring problem, held on to the captain’s armband despite Nathan Walker’s return to the side.

Kemp explained the captaincy situation, adding: “Smeets took over the captaincy when Nathan was away.

“I felt Nathan played well on Saturday when he came on and didn’t have anything else to worry about apart from his own performance.

“I’ve told Nathan it’s not a permanent thing, he is still club captain and may captain the team again in the near future, but for now I’m going to leave it with Smeets.

“Nathan played well again last night and without the armband he’s had his two best performances for me.”
