ENGLAND and GB international Jay Lelliott broke another Dorset record to lead Swim Bournemouth to their best start to a National Arena League campaign.

Portland’s European bronze medallist and Commonwealth Games finalist won the men’s 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle as Bournemouth took second to 2013 national finalists Taunton Deane in round one of the Western Premier League in Dorchester.

Lelliott, 19, looked a class apart as he carved 1.43secs off his own short-course county record with a time of 53.87 in the butterfly.

He was also comfortably ahead in the freestyle in 51.01 – 0.57secs short of Seth Chappels’ Dorset record from 2004.

Lelliott’s latest success came just two days after he had been named as one of 21 swimmers in Britain’s Lottery-funded Podium performance squad for athletes considered to have potential to medal at Rio 2016.

His wins were among 13 race victories for Swim Bourne-mouth.
