A DETERMINED Jason Matthews insists his side’s FA Cup first round chances are still strong, providing the Terras’ have the desire to cause an upset in Essex.

Following their goalless draw at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday, the Weymouth supremo believes that Tuesday night’s replay at Braintree town is “there for the taking” as long as his squad want it enough.

Matthews said: “When we get going on Tuesday the boys will be fired up, it’s there for the taking and it’s how much you want it.

“Maybe they (Braintree) think that they have won the tie by going back up there but I said to the lads that we will stay positive and we can cause them some problems.”

Weymouth will also have their prospective first round opponents revealed tonight when the draw is made live at St George’s Park (7pm).

Commenting on Saturday’s stalemate, the player-manager added: “We just lacked that little bit of quality and you don’t get chance after chance against a top non-League side. Braintree came to do a job and they’ve done it.

“We have put in a good performance against a mid-table Conference side, we haven’t lost and I don’t think they hurt us too much. I’ve probably had one or two saves to make all game.

“Braintree set their stall out pretty much how we expected and it was just one of those days where we didn’t quite get going in the second half but we are in the hat and I will stay positive.”
