KYLE Critchell is still looking to challenge himself at the highest level possible but knows there is a chance he might have to give up football altogether.

The defender’s departure from Dorchester Town, where he had been playing for free since the end of August, was confirmed by boss Graham Kemp last Saturday.

Without being covered financially, Critchell, pictured, was unable to travel to away games because of his work commitments.

And, with Kemp searching for consistency in team selection, Critchell and the club decided to part company.

“I want to say thank you to Graham for giving me the opportunity,” said Critchell. “I wanted to prove to myself that I could play at that level and I absolutely loved it.

“I’m hoping to find a club to carry on training with and see where it takes me.

“The only thing I can definitely say is that I won’t play below the Southern Premier League.

“I need to challenge myself and that’s at the highest level possible.

“I’m hoping I don’t have to finish but the options around the area are not great.

“I’d never say never in terms of giving up but at the moment it does look that way.”

On the decision to leave the Avenue, he added: “If the club had been able to cover me for work I could have played away games and would have committed.

“I never took a single payment from the club and felt that if I couldn’t be rewarded then it was best I seek pastures new.”
