BELLE CONSTRUCTION 26 FITNESS WORLD 16

BELLE had the edge in this low-scoring top-flight contest.

This match began with a strong start from Belle who took an early lead.

Fitness had a strong defence with Lara Pearsons and Becky Cousens working well together, limiting Belle to just eight goals in the first quarter.

However, Belle still stayed ahead of Fitness and maintained their lead through the first two quarters.

Belle wing-defence Carly Lawes provided a constant passing option with controlled, quick dodges.

Construction made tactical changes for the second half, resulting in Fitness being marked out of the D but, when they did get the ball in the circle, the shooters were on point.

The tight score reflected how close the match was. Belle shooters Jasmine Franklin and Louise Bugler were on point throughout the match and worked a ‘pulley system’ well.

Fitness played a much stronger match than was reflected in scores but Belle held on to their lead from the very beginning.

By the end of the first half, Autobitz’s consistent play extended their lead to nine goals.

Autobitz dominated the second half with strong feeds into the circle which allowed Karen Hall and Clare Taylor to find the net every time.

LUGGER INN 24 BOHO BEARS 72

HUNGRY Boho Bears stormed to victory over the Lugger.

Excellent shooting and strong court play from both teams saw a close score at the end of the first quarter with only two goals separating the two teams.

Boho’s goal-shooter Becca Kim-ber displayed some outstanding scoring and coupled with excellent interceptions and tight marking from wing-defence Tori Skelton, helped Boho take a 30-13 lead by the end of the first half.

Boho dominated the second half and extended their lead by 34.

Boho goal-keeper Laura Bucke communicated to team-mates well and the defensive end proved unstoppable.

The slippery courts saw Lugger more cautious, which Boho took full advantage of.

Lugger centre Bernie John talked well and motivated her team to keep fighting for goals.

Excellent shooting from goal-attack Clare Butler helped Lugger, however, Boho were too far ahead to catch.

WATERSIDE 49 WYKE SMUGGLERS 32

WATERSIDE bagged the points after seeing off the Smugglers.

Waterside took a steady lead from the first whistle with consistent play throughout the court even though they were missing a player.

Wyke worked hard, utilising their free player and goal-defence Vicky Sharpe marked well but, as the first half went on, her side made risky passes, which Waterside picked off with ease.

Waterside scored an impressive 15 goals in the second quarter compared to eight in the first.

Waterside maintained their lead after a low-scoring first period and didn’t seem to miss their seventh player. Wyke were still making good turnovers and goal-attack Tracy Moore consistently found the net in the second half.

Although Wyke scored 13 in the third quarter, Waterside were well clear to bag the points.
