WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 15

SWANAGE & WAREHAM II 20

CAPTAIN Kevin Leatham was left to rue his side’s missed chances as they came unstuck against Swanage & Wareham Seconds at Monmouth Avenue.

Trailing late on, the home side were camped deep in opposition territory, but they could not take their chances to convert a number of set plays, as Swans survived the onslaught and the hosts had to swallow the bitter pill of a bonus-point defeat.

“We should have taken our chances when they came and that is basically what cost us at the end of the day,” said Leatham, whose side now trail league leaders East Dorset by 16 points in Dorset & Wilts Two South.

“Our first half wasn’t really good enough, I was pleased with the way we defended, our intensity, and the way we hit the breakdown, but we just couldn’t turn our performance into points.

“It was a good game because it was so intense but not taking our chances really did cost us.”

The second row did go on to compliment the Swans, who are also in the shake-up for promotion from the division this season, currently lying in third spot.

Leatham admitted that a change of style from the visitors may have caught Weymouth & Portland out.

He added: “They came at us hard and they played a bit differently than they normally do. They usually play through their forwards but they had a good back line and tested our defence.

“They kept us guessing everywhere. They got it out wide and had a good full-back, we got drawn in a couple of times.”
