PORTLAND Gig Rowing Club has been lucky to receive a boost from an island company.

Quality Time Training Ltd gave the Portland Marina-based club an action camera which will be used to film club rowing and assist with improving individual and team rowing techniques.

Bob Elliot from Quality Time has sponsored the club since April 2013. He has donated marine equipment, assisted club members in gaining VHF radio qualifications and given general marine-related advice.

Quality Time Training Ltd is based at Osprey Quay and can assist with Royal Yachting Association courses, corporate events, boat charter, boat deliveries and training.

Chief instructor Elliot has more than 20 years’ experience of boating in UK and European waters.

The club expressed their thanks to Quality Time Ltd for their continued support.

This year, the rowers have celebrated their best season ever. It included participating at the World Pilot Gig Championships which were held on the Isles of Scilly, thriving at the rowing championships at Newquay and competing in many regattas across the region.

Portland Gig Rowing Club is a registered charity which offers the growing sport to those wishing to row socially or progress to a competitive level.

The club has two wooden Cornish pilot gig boats and two training boats.

Members are very proud of the Portland fleet and take great pride in representing the island club.

The club welcomes members of the community from 11 years old and upwards. If you are interested in having a go, visit the club website, portlandgigrowingclub.co.uk, or email portlandgigrowingclub@yahoo.co.uk
