WEYMOUTH’S run of eight consecutive away league fixtures ended with another win on Saturday, as the Terras held their nerve to overcome Burnham at the Gore.

The visitors had Stewart Yetton to thank for netting an 83rd-minute winner, and manager Jason Matthews is keen to take the momentum into tomorrow’s home clash with Poole Town (7.45pm).

Commenting on Saturday’s game, he said: “It was very pleasing and I’m chuffed to bits with the result.

“It was very boggy and the pitch didn’t play great but we are grinding out results now and becoming very hard to beat.

“Yetts does what he does best to pop up with the winner. It makes the whole battle worthwhile and coming out with three points is great. It keeps the pressure on the top teams.

“I would have said a draw was a fair result but at the end of the day we took our chances.

“Burnham are much improved. I think they would admit that themselves and they have given us three very tough games, but to go away and win there shows a statement of intent.”

The result means Weymouth remain nine points adrift of the high-flying Dolphins with two games in hand.

Matthews added: “We have been incredibly consistent and it should be a great spectacle tomorrow night, and I urge people to come down.”

The Terras’ chief is hoping that midfielder Chris Shephard can fully recover in time from the illness that kept him on the bench during Saturday’s triumph.
