WEYMOUTH RESERVES 2 BLANDFORD UNITED 0

WEYMOUTH Reserves made it four wins on the spin as they edged out Blandford United thanks to a brace from frontman Josh Tennant.

The young striker scored either side of half-time at the Bob Lucas Stadium to give Jake Richmond’s men their 11th win in 18 league outings this term.

The former Magpies’ man was in hot form as he almost opened the scoring within the first five minutes.

He was threaded through by new recruit Szymon Matuszewski, who recently joined the Terras from Westland Sports, and after rounding the Royals’ goalkeeper Tennant saw his effort cleared off the line by a covering defender.

But the former Dorchester Town hitman soon got his reward when he volleyed home Sean Zima’s delivery to make it 1-0 at the interval.

Within two minutes of the restart, right-back Jamie West then had an impact on proceedings.

His shot was followed up by Tennant, who gambled on the rebound and tucked the ball home to double his tally for the afternoon.

Chances then fell to Weymouth’s Jamie Beasley and Matuszewski, who was denied a goal on his debut when he lifted the ball over the bar after playing a neat one-two with Tennant.

Stand-in stopper Joe Prodomo, playing in place of regular reserves’ gloveman Ryan Park as he was struggling with injury, then made a sharp save just past the hour mark to keep his clean sheet unblemished.

And he was called on once more to settle any nerves the home side had as they ran out 2-0 winners.

“We were workmanlike,” boss Richmond told Echosport.

“It should have been more comfortable than what it was. The one little thing we seem to have at the moment is that we are not seeing teams off like we should.

“When we are comfortable and a couple of goals up we aren’t making it really comfortable and scoring three, four or five.”

But the reserves’ manager was full of praise for a number of his charges.

Commenting on Tennant, he added: “He didn’t play last week because he picked up a dead leg the week before, but his hold up play and his link up play is getting better.

“He just gives you that focal point to be able to play off him.”

On the debut performance of Matuszewski, Richmond claimed: “We saw some excellent touches from him and when he has had five or six games and settled I’m sure he will be fantastic for us.

“From what I have been told he has played in the Polish Second Division. He has a long way to go yet but he showed a little glimpse of what he is about.

“Jamie West was excellent and we asked Matt Harvey to play left-back against Paul Ford, an old player of ours, and he never gave him a kick.”
