CHICKERELL United take a break from league football tomorrow afternoon, though Steve Coward’s troops will definitely not be putting their feet up as they go to Okeford in the Dorset Senior Trophy (1.30pm).

A place in the semi-finals of the county competition is up for grabs in one of three last-eight ties to take place this weekend.

Gillingham Town Reserves and Stourpaine host Portland United Reserves and Holt respectively, while Bridport Reserves entertain Lytchett Red Trian- gle next Saturday.

The Chickens are big favourites to win at the Recreation Ground and all the signs point towards a victory for Coward’s men.

Not only do the sides sit at opposite ends of the Dorset Senior League, the Chickens beat Okeford 5-0 for the second time this season just six days ago.

And, according to Coward, there is a big incentive for Chickerell to go all the way in the tournament.

“It’s one the club hasn’t won before so it would be nice if we could put that right,” he said.

“Once you get to the quarter-finals you know that you’re only two games away from the final itself.

“We want a piece of that and we’ve got a bunch of players that want to win cups as well as leagues.

“We will be putting out our strongest side and won’t be going to Okeford half-hearted.”

While Chickerell are involved in the trophy, Balti House take on Piddletrenthide Spartans in the league (2pm) knowing at least a point will see them go back to the top of the table.

Spartans are chasing a third win in four, their latest victory coming at Blandford United Reserves.

Boss Kieron Howes said: “We need to take last Saturday’s performance into this week against Balti House who would expect to beat us with the class they have.

“I just hope my lads have something to say about it.”

Elsewhere in the league, Ashley James’ Dorchester Sports go to Witchampton United.
