WEY Valley student Ollie Sanderson will be taking part in a national biathlon event in Solihull, Birmingham in January following outstanding achievements in the sport over the last four years.

A former pupil of Radipole Primary School, Sanderson is a member of Dorset Pentathletes, which trains in Weymouth and has recently qualified for the national biathlon event following competitions in London.

Sanderson said: “The sport involves running and swimming and I take part in after-school clubs at Wey Valley as well as being a member of the Dorset Pentathletes in Weymouth.

“I really enjoy the sport as it is a team event with some really good sporting colleagues.”

The 11-year-old is also looking forward to competing in London later in the year at the Olympic Park, including swimming in the Olympic pool.

Sanderson is a member of the Gifted and Talented sport group at Wey Valley School, which offers him the benefit of extra PE sessions to help him achieve his sporting goals.

PE teacher Stuart Heath said: “Ollie is an exceptional athlete and truly dedicated to his sport and studies at school. He has set high standards and should be commended for his aspirations to go further.

“The PE department and the school wish Ollie every success with the national biathlon event in the New Year.”
