WEYMOUTH RESERVES 1 TINTINHULL 1

WEYMOUTH Reserves saw their five-match winning streak come to an end at Montacute Road in Somerset.

Boss Jake Richmond was disappointed his side couldn’t secure a sixth straight Dorset Premier League victory, but he praised his men for the performance they produced on the day.

With the Terras’ first team needing the Bob Lucas Stadium for their FA Trophy tie with Havant & Waterlooville, the reserves switched the game to Tintinhull, though it still remained a ‘home’ fixture for Weymouth.

“We played some fantastic football but didn’t get what we deserved,” said Richmond. “We gave away a soft goal in the first half which gave them something to defend.

“All they did then was put men behind the ball so they were really tough to break down.

“Josh Tennant equalised with about 20 minutes left and I thought we would go on to get two or three more after that.

“But although we dominated the game, our final ball wasn’t as good as it could have been.

“If we had been more clinical with our final ball we would have won comfortably.

“I’m disappointed because we performed so well and only took a point.”

On the Tinmen, he added: “Take nothing away from them, they had a game plan and they executed it, and their manager would have been delighted.

“It was a really gritty performance from them and they were going everything they could to get something from the match.”

Sean Zima and Szymon Matuszewski had shots saved early on before the Tinmen took the lead on 21 minutes.

Tintinhull enjoyed a good spell of pressure after that and Ryan Park did well to keep out a free-kick from 20 yards.

Richmond’s troops ended the first period strongly and Sam Nichols and Lee Sharpe went close to levelling the scores.

Tennant did make it 1-1 in the 71st minute and there looked like being only one winner after that.

Substitute Ashley Ayley and Sharpe, twice more, nearly got the Terras’ second but it just wouldn’t come.
