WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 40 BOURNEMOUTH III 13

NEW arrivals Lewis Glynn and Henry Perry both touched down for Weymouth & Portland in a comprehensive win over Bournemouth Thirds at Monmouth Avenue.

Centre Glynn and hooker Perry were two of the visitors’ six different try scorers, while the other points came from the boot of Bryn Llewellyn.

Their bonus-point victory moves fifth-placed Weymouth & Portland to within two points of Puddletown in Dorset & Wilts Two South.

But Kevin Leatham’s side didn’t have it all their own way to start with last Saturday.

They took the lead through Ryan Lewendon’s converted try, but Bournemouth hit back with a score of their own to make it 7-5.

However, Glynn and Perry went over before Andy Bowditch, Steve Nation-Grainger and Jake Guildford crossed the whitewash later in the game.

Nation-Grainger, playing at fly-half instead of full-back, controlled the game well and his try was arguably the pick of the bunch.

A local derby against Dorchester Seconds is next for Leatham’s troops, and he was thrilled with how his team played at the weekend.

“We got off to a slow start and it took us a few minutes to get into the game,” he said.

“We were playing as individuals to start with but once we settled down we went back to our game plan.

“Our first try in the second half was a great score and it was all about being patient in the build up.

“All in all, we played really well, though we did drop off a few tackles to let them score near the end, but that can happen.”

Commenting on Glynn and Perry, he added: “Henry and Liam have come in at just the right time.

“Henry has come back from university and Liam has come back to the game after a spell out.

“It’s great to have competition for places and players who are versatile.

“Henry can play at hooker and in the back row, while Liam is normally in the back row but played at inside centre for us on Saturday.”
