OKEFORD UNITED 0 CHICKERELL UNITED 5

CHICKERELL manager Steve Coward insisted his players are “buzzing” over their form after they secured a Dorset Senior Trophy semi-final spot with a convincing 5-0 win over Okeford United.

Having also beaten their opponents 5-0 in the league the week before, the Chickens got off to a flyer as striker Josh Why opened the scoring with a sublime strike inside the first minute.

Further goals followed from Josh Burton, Nick Etherington and Steve Churchill, with Why sealing his brace as the Stalls outfit faultlessly progressed, much to the delight of their manager.

He told Echosport: “The boys are buzzing. We are top of the league and in the semi-finals of the cup and we couldn’t wish to be in a better position.

“It doesn’t get any better and they are all absolutely loving it, there is a good bit of banter and it’s all good fun.”

Commenting on the cup clash itself, in which his side were 3-0 up and cruising inside 20 minutes, Coward added: “We just about did enough, we didn’t play as well as we could but we played well enough to beat what was in front of us.

“They had a couple of different players from last week but we took our chances. We went 3-0 up early doors so, to be quite honest, they were always going to struggle from then on.”

However, Chickerell did finish the game with 10 men after Steve Welch limped off having taken a knock to his ankle in the latter stages.
