WEYMOUTH FC are on the lookout for a new stadium announcer to help out Paul Broadhead as soon as possible.

Since long-term volunteer Pete Pavey retired his services two-and-a-half years ago, press room co-ordinator Dill Butcher brought in Broadhead as the main announcer, with Gary Penfold as his back-up.

Unfortunately, neither of the pair are able to commit fully to the post and it has become increasingly difficult to ensure the PA room is adequately manned for all matches.

Butcher said: “Paul has done a great job for the club over three seasons but he runs a business that operates weekend sports and music festivals and naturally it is impossible for him to attend all Saturday games, whereas Gary finds travelling to games ever more difficult.

“It is also hard for me to stand-in on Saturdays as I am pretty busy reporting on the games anyway, so we really need some help now.”

The current PA room believe that there must be one or two members of the community who would relish the opportunity to gain experience as a public address speaker.

“If anybody thinks they could help us out, maybe with a view to creating a new team for next season, then I urge them to contact me.

“Nobody will be thrown in at the deep end as any new announcers would shadow Paul for a number of games to learn the ropes.

“The voluntary role might appeal to media students, DJs, or any fan just wanting to put a bit back into the club,” said Butcher.
