WEYMOUTH'S Sam Pascoe has won the International 14 World Championships with sailing partner Glen Truswell.

The event was held at Geelong, Australia where six races took place and saw more than 65 competitors participating.

Pascoe, a member of both Castle Cove and Weymouth Sailing Club secured the event win on the penultimate day of racing, which was challeng-ing with very shifty wind conditions causing a delay to the start.

Over the event, the pair achieved five race wins and a second place, dominating the fleet from start to finish.

The past season has been absolutely fantastic for the duo with the pair taking the honours at the European and National Championships.

Adding this to their latest win, it has been phenomenal.

Pascoe said: “After four years of trying to win the International 14 Worlds as a helm and managing a seventh and a second, I swapped roles and began crewing for Glen Truswell.

“Eleven months later we have done the triple – World, Euro-pean and National champions.

“Glen is currently finishing a new boat so we will try and continue our unbeaten run at the Easter tray in Chichester Harbour. “My sister, Megan Pascoe and I have a habit of matching major wins so we look forward to her results this season.”

Castle Cove Sailing Club will be throwing a party on Saturday, January 31 to celebrate the championship victory.

The party will be from 7.30pm onwards.
