JASON Matthews reckons the Terras’ current poor run of form is merely a “blip” in their quest for promotion from the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division this season.

Four defeats in their last five league outings has resulted in Weymouth losing their grip on top spot and falling behind Poole in the race for the title.

The Dolphins, who have at least one game in hand on all their rivals, are now five points clear of Corby, Matthews’ men and Truro after three successive wins.

When asked about his side’s disappointing sequence of results, Terras’ player-manager Matthews said: “I’m putting it down as a blip.

“I’m sure results will turn for us, and only Poole have got away from us a little bit so there’s no need to panic.

“It’s been a frustrating time because what we’ve been doing this season has brought us a lot of success.

“We haven’t had a settled side for a couple of weeks and that probably hasn’t helped.

“I thought we put in a good performance at Hungerford on Tuesday but came up against a really stubborn side.

“They took their chances and we didn’t take ours, though I was pleased with our response after Saturday.

“We have maybe lacked a bit of quality in the final third and we have conceded some sloppy goals.

“We need to be more ruthless in front of goal and at the back with keeping clean sheets.”

Histon, in 18th place, are going for a league double over the Terras when they visit the Bob Lucas Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

“We’re working on a few things for tomorrow and it’s important we get some points on the board,” added Matthews.

“We obviously don’t want this run to continue and tomorrow gives us a chance to put things right.

“I went to watch Histon a few weeks ago and they are not as bad as their position suggests.

“They are a young side with nothing to lose and they are going to throw everything at us.

“We owe them one after they beat us up at their place and we are determined to put that right.”

Chris McPhee returns after missing the last two matches through injury, while striker Conor Jevon could come back into the squad as well.
