BEN Westhenry picked up his second regional medal in a month by claiming silver at the Midlands Championships in Nottingham.

Running for Bristol and West AC, the Weymouth athlete was part of an early breakaway group of four in the junior men’s race that forged ahead of the pack on a challenging and very muddy course.

Third coming into the final 400m, Westhenry finished fast to push up to second and was closing fast on the eventual winner before having to settle for silver.

The Bristol University student’s next big race will be the National Champion-ships at Parliament Hill, London in February.

Meanwhile, Ryan Purse and Aidan Turner produced excellent performances at the Dorset Schools Championships earlier this month.

Despite still having another year left in his age group, Purse came fifth in the junior boys’ race, while Turner finished 11th in a highly-competitive inter-boys event.

Both have achieved selection for the Dorset schools teams that will take part in the South West Schools Championships in Gloucestershire.
