JASON Matthews feels new recruit Dean Evans will provide that ‘bit of bite’ he believes his squad has been lacking in recent weeks, as Cirencester Town visit the Bob Lucas Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

The Weymouth player-manager thinks the former Plymouth Argyle and Frome Town man, who has joined the Terras from Paulton Rovers, will give the squad a big lift for the home stretch in their push for promotion.

“Dean is delighted to be moving to us and hopefully he can give us the boost that we need,” Matthews told Echosport.

“He will give me a little bit of bite in the midfield that I feel we have been lacking. I feel that he is the right man to fill that spot.

“He is from Paulton which is near where I live. I have watched them two or three times this year and he has stood out. He had a good game at our place, hence why we put the seven-day approach in for him.”

Having picked up just one point from their last three league contests, Matthews knows the importance of tomorrow’s encounter with the Centurions, who are bidding for four wins on the spin.

He said: “The last few weeks haven’t gone quite to plan but it’s another big game against Cirencester.

“The last few performances haven’t been good enough. I want to get back out there and put things right.”
